Indeed, the definition of risk is based on the analysis and the interpretation of the relationship between one or several hazards, vulnerable items and risks prevention policies. The risk assessment approach is conceptually interdisciplinary. The transdisciplinary approach is essential, due to our recognition of the limitations of risk management and disaster prevention policies. Specifically, if prevention policies involve a simple transfer of knowledge from earth and social sciences to the social world. Number of post-disaster assessments prove that scientific knowledge is necessary but a simple top-down approach is inefficient. A transdisciplinary approach, integrating stakeholders in research programs on prevention policies is supposed to be more effective.
The main questions are: How and with whom to produce more interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary knowledge? How to manage knowledge and achieve prevention policies?
