3-dimensional integrated quantum circuits: applications and perspectives
The emergence of integrated photonic technology in the realm of quantum applications gives rise to a new generation of integrated waveguide structures consisting of complex quantum circuits with perfect intrinsic phase stability. Integrated photonic technology makes possible on-chip platforms for powerful applications of quantum communication and computation and allows to solve critical problems in terms of scalability and reliability. Using the mobility of photons it is possible to create arbitrary interconnections within interferometer arrays fabricated on single integrated platforms and to realize complex optical circuits performing basic quantum logic gates and algorithms and representing the hardware of a quantum simulator operating with photons.
In this talk I'll present recent achievements dealing with the realization of novel integrated devices fabricated in the three dimensions of space, and the perspectives for quantum simulation opened by the experiments carried out by our group at Sapienza University of Rome.
