CROUS

CROUS (Centre Régional des Oeuvres Universitaires et Scolaires) is a public institution dedicated to students, which objectives are :
  • to offer all young people the chance to study and to success
  • to help finding financial aid for studies
  • to help students’ integration into campus life

STUDENTS’ SCHOLARSHIP AND ACCOMMODATION FACILITIES APPLICATION FORM - LE DOSSIER SOCIAL ETUDIANT (DSE) 

There is a unique application form called 
DSE (Dossier Social Etudiant) for accommodation facilities on the University campus and scholarships. 
Students have to apply for one or both of these facilities every year. All current or prospective student, either French or international, have to apply online between January 15 and April 30, for the next academic year, even if they still don’t have their final results (grade report).
Three criteria are taken into account for accommodation facilities and scholarships: family income, the number of children on parents’ charge and distance between student’s home and the University. 

SCHOLARSHIPS
CROUS offers scholarships on social condition criteria. Students have to apply via the application form DSE named above.

ACCOMMODATION FACILITIES

CROUS manages 6 halls of residence in Nice and 1 in Sophia-Antipolis. There are more than 2800 vacancies (rooms and studios).

During the year, and even if an application form DSE has not been submitted, CROUS can accommodate students within the limits of available places, as passengers for a couple of days (€ 14.15 to € 24.10 per night) or longer (e.g. during their internships). 

HOUSING FINANCIAL AIDS: CAF (CAISSE D’ALLOCATIONS FAMILIALES) 

If you're renting a private flat/house, CAF gives housing aids to students upon different criteria (income, family situation, accommodation type, etc.)
2 housing aids exist, but they cannot be combined:
Social housing aid: Allocation Logement à caractère Social (ALS) 
Personalized housing aid - Aide Personnalisée au Logement (APL)

Social housing aid (ALS) 

  • Who?
    All students (no matter their age, family or professional situation) renting an accommodation alone or with their roommates.
  • What?
    Accommodation of at least 9m² for one person and 16m² for a couple. The contract has to be signed by the occupier(s). 
  • How?

    The application form has to be completed and signed by the student and the landlord.
Personalized housing aid (APL)

Who? All students (no matter their age, family or professional situation) renting an accommodation.

STUDENT’S LOAN

The student’s loan is guaranteed by the State for French and European students less than 28 years old.

THE NATIONAL HEALTH INSURANCE

Health Insurance is mandatory for students from 16 to 28 years old, unless exception: 
• EU students covered by their home country Health Insurance
• Workers working at least 120 h every 3 months.
The student health insurance fee for academic year 2014/2015 (from October 01 to September 30) is 213€.
Students have to pay the health insurance fee the day of the enrolment at the school. 
There are 2 organisms in charge of Student health insurance: LMDE and MEP. Students have to choose one of them to be reimbursed of their medical expenses. The same organisation will deliver the Health Insurance Card.

MUTUAL INSURANCE COMPANIES

Membership in a mutual insurance company is not mandatory. However, Student Social Security does not cover all medical expenses, so students can subscribe a mutual coverage at LMDE or MEP (mutual insurance companies).

PUBLIC TRANSPORT

TRAMWAY AND BUS IN THE NICE COTE D’AZUR AREA(LIGNE D’AZUR)
There is a unique tariff: 1€ for the whole tram and bus network in Nice and its suburbs, connections included. 
Students can subscribe for a season ticket, whose price is very attractive.

REGIONAL TRAIN - LE TRAIN EXPRESS RÉGIONAL (TER)
The seasonal ticket for young people on the French Riviera (carte jeunes région PACA) allows students to take a regional train every day with a 50% reduction on the ticket. The cost of the seasonal ticket is 15€ and it is valid one year.

ENVIBUS – BUS NETWORK IN SOPHIA ANTIPOLIS AND ITS SUBURBS (LE RÉSEAU DE TRANSPORTS DE LA CASA)
The price of a ticket is 1€, valid for 3h (connections included). Seasonal tickets at very attractive prices exist.
