Post-Doc in "Smart cities and communities" - Application deadline: February 1st, 2018

A post-doc position is available at CNRS-GREDEG, Nice - Sophia Antipolis, France, within the framework of the research project IRIS financed by the European Commission - Program H2020 "Smart cities and communities"

We are encouraging applications of candidates with proven research experience in the field of smart cities and city innovation, as well as specialization in relevant empirical, econometric and/or modelling tools.

GREDEG is part of Université Côte d'Azur, as a joint research unit of University of Nice Sophia Antipolis and CNRS (UMR 7321).

It develops theoretical and applied research in economics, law and management with, in the field of innovation, business ecosystems, entrepreneurial dynamics, consumers behaviours, the funding of innovation. For the IRIS project, GREDEG collaborates with IMREDD, a joint institute of the Metropole Nice-Côte d'Azur and the University of Nice Sophia Antipolis, hosting one of the reference centers of the Université Côte d'Azur dedicated to "Smart Territory, prevention and risk management”, as well as the Smart City Innovation Center (SCIC) technology platform.

  • Project summary

The IRIS project is dedicated to the proposition of new business models for smart cities, particularly in the field of energy and mobility in the cities of Nice, Gothenburg and Utrecht. The project regroups about 10 partners in the Nice eco-system, including the city of Nice as well as key public and private actors in the field of energy, mobility and IT (UNS, NCA, EDF, VEOLIA, VULOG, CSTB, NEXITY, CAH, ENEDIS), and about 30 similar partners at the European level in the cities of Utrecht and Gothenburg. In a context where cities are increasingly a driver for innovation and entrepreneurship, the project investigates the frames within which the innovative spaces are being cultivated by proactive cities, as well as the issue of replication in follower cities. Job description The candidate will be involved in qualitative and quantitative studies on smart cities eco-systems of Nice, Utrecht and Goteborg. The candidate will contribute to the deliverables of the project which consist in identifying the strengths and weaknesses, opportunities and threats of local ecosystems and generate guidelines for the development of the IRIS action plan. Local conditions of the innovation system in terms of entrepreneurial dynamics, the role of universities and incubation processes, the matching with investors and sources of funding, will be key elements of investigation. The work will include citizen energy and mobility behaviour issues in view of defining early business modelling development where social acceptance is explicitly considered. The candidate will be part of all team meetings related to the project. An excellent command of english and french is required.


Contract features:

  • 24 months (12+12), full time contract

    Starting date: Spring 2018 (preferably march/april)

    • Payment: 2500 euros/month, pre-tax salary, plus employer’s Social Security payment, plus travel package

    • Location: Nice-Sophia Antipolis (France)
